The Little Used Form W-5

How to Give Money Back

June 1, 2007

Linked is the IRS Form W-5 which permits low income earners (usually the mother) to make application through their employer for a monthly withholding tax refund of up to 65% of their earned income credit.  This can amount to a couple of hundred dollars for moms with two kids and low income. In the courtroom the bailiff can keep these forms and give them to the appropriate mom’s at when the computer shows them with low income or with net income that exceeds their gross income.

The nice thing about the form is that it contains all of the necessary instructions for filing.  This comes up anytime the net income shows up on  the computer as being as high or higher than the gross that was given to you for the guideline calculation.

This is a nice service to these hardworking parents who are unnecessarily having withholding taxes taken out by their employers when all they have to do is submit the W-5 to cure the problem.
